Book of Psalms (36-40)

Hey friends,

Psalms is one of my favorite books in the bible. My life verse comes from Psalms (46:5). Each week, I will be posting 5 chapters at a time.

Disclaimer: My Bible is NLT. I will be referencing from NTL for the most part but for better understanding I may switch to a different translation. I will be sharing how I view the word and what God is speaking to me as I read.

Let’s jump into the word!

Wow. All I have to say to start us off is WOW! I remember reading these chapters and thinking to myself, "I can not wait till I get to 36-40 on the blog."

If this message does not speak to you. You better read it again! I was just touched by this message.

Chapter 36:

Can we just take a moment and appreciate verses 5-12 real quick. God's love is pure and so indescribably beautiful.

 5Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens;

your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.

6Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

your justice like the ocean depths.

You care for people and animals alike, O Lord.

7How precious is your unfailing love, O God!

All humanity finds shelter

in the shadow of your wings.

8You feed them from the abundance of your own house,

letting them drink from your river of delights.

9For you are the fountain of life,

the light by which we see.

10Pour out your unfailing love on those who love you;

give justice to those with honest hearts.

11 Don't let the proud trample me

or the wicked push me around.

12Look! Those who do evil have fallen!

They are thrown down, never to rise again.

A few things I learned from this message was how generous God is and how he is a shelter and caretaker. He protects his people and gives abundantly. He gives us life and he shines his light in us so we as his followers can inherit the Kingdom of God.

Chapter 37:

The chapter starts off saying "Don't worry." The chapter continues to explain why we should not worry and how we are to trust Him with what we have and leave our worries in our prayers. If we trust God with what we have he will bless us with our heart's desires.

I LOVE verse 7, "Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act."

I remember speaking the other night to my youth kids and asking them, "Do you ever feel like you are just praying the same prayer every night and hoping that God will finally reveal to you what you desire?"

I explained to them that God heard the first time you prayed that prayer. It is not that he does not want to listen, he just wants you to wait. Another leader added on, "God either says, 'yes, no or wait.' He hears you."

During the waiting period, the chapter goes on and explains how we should only worry about the relationship we have with God than the worries of our hearts.

A couple of key points:

  • Turn away from anger.

  • God protects those who bring praise to HIS NAME.

  • Live godly even when you have little. It's better to live godly and have little then live with greed.

  • He will ALWAYS provide.

  • He blesses those who trust him with all they have.

  • The godly are wise. Take counsel on other believers.

  • He saves and restores.

Chapter 38/39:

These two chapters greatly correlate with each other. Chapter 38 discusses sin and chapter 39 discusses salvation. Sin causes us to feel overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit makes us understand our sins. The enemy causes us to feel the guilt and shame of our sin.

However, there is always power over our downfall. Sin allows us to feel God's heart. We are to seek salvation over temptation.

In chapter 39, there is a POWERFUL statement made.

4“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.

Remind me that my days are numbered—

how fleeting my life is.

5You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.

My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;

at best, each of us is but a breath.”

WOW! SPEAKING STRAIGHT FACTS!

The life we are living right now is all gifted from God. None of it is ours. This life is nothing compared to what God has for us in Heaven. We are nothing but guests of the earth.

Chapter 40:

God's love is everlasting.

It's pure.

It's innocent.

It's true.

It's faithful.

It's real.

It's good.

It's equal.

It's nothing like anything else.

8I take joy in doing your will, my God,

for your instructions are written on my heart.”

We are to serve God faithfully and bring joy to His Name.

Subscribe to see when the next 5 chapters come out!

D
